language confusion with gulls

The mention of the Black-headed Gull in Birding-Dudes Post on the Christmas Eve birding day, inspired me to my following post:

I have just realized recently that there is some kind of a “lost in translation” with gull names:

English: “Yellow-legged Gull” is in German: “Mittelmeermöwe” – that means “Mediterranean Gull”
English: “Mediterranean Gull” is in German: “Schwarzkopfmöwe” – that means “Black-headed Gull”
English: “Black-headed Gull” is in German: “Lachmöwe” – that means “Laughing Gull”
English: “Laughing Gull” is in German: “Azteken Möwe”.

I’m glad an “Aztec Gull” doesn’t exist – or am I wrong?
